SAVE SBS

Southall Black Sisters has been funded for many years by Ealing Council but in 2008, the Council decided to take away our funding arguing that specialist services like ours were no longer needed because they worked against cohesion and integration. SBS successfully challenged the decision by way of a judicial review on the grounds, amongst others, that the Council failed to assess the adverse impact of the decision on BME women as it was required to do under equality laws. The challenge represented a key moment for black and minority groups battling for survival in a climate of austerity, public spending cuts and rising racism.
