A Statement from Southall Black Sisters on Gaza

We mourn the loss of life and the violent attacks on persons in Gaza and Israel, as well as the Israeli government’s declaration of war on Gaza, including the cutting off food, fuel and medical supplies, electricity and water in contravention of international law.

We are also appalled by some British media’s coverage of the events, as well as the failure of practically every British politician to call for an immediate ceasefire.

We encourage the British government and all members of parliament to demand for an immediate ceasefire, de-escalation of hostilities, and adherence to international law. Conflict zones foster an environment conducive to an increase in violence against women, girls, and other vulnerable groups.

Palestinians live under an apartheid system, and the suffering of millions of innocent children, women, and civilians both Israelis and Palestinians, can end only when Israel’s occupation ends.
