We are very sad to hear of the passing of Asha Omar, a former resident of Brent Asian Women’s Refuge and supporter of SBS. Asha was well loved by other residents and by all of us. She was a fighter for women’s rights who spoke openly about her experiences and also encouraged countless other women to stand up and fight for their rights. She livened up the room with her presence and never shied away from challenging community or religious leaders for using their power to quash women’s desires and aspirations. Asha will be greatly missed by us.
