Avina Shah Prepares to Sky-Dive for Southall Black Sisters

Brit-Asian singer celebrates her birthday by highlighting domestic violence

Avina Shah, Brit-Asian singer is definitely one to watch out for as she conquers her fears and prepares to sky-dive off a plane at 13,000 feet to raise money for Southall Black Sisters (SBS).

Avina first raised the often silenced issue of domestic violence by dedicating her song ‘Tere Bina (‘Without You’), a song of a woman escaping domestic violence. SBS is proud of its association with Avina and her courage.

Every week, new women approach SBS, fearful, and traumatised by their experiences at the hands of violent partners.  Every week SBS caseworkers work tirelessly to place them out of harm and help them rebuild their lives.  In a year, SBS receives in excess of 3,000 calls for help.  From forced marriage to dowry-related abuse to immigration and self-harm issues, SBS leads the way in responding to the complexity of domestic violence.

Conquering their fears is tough for the women who come to us which is why we are so proud to support Avina in her attempt to raise awareness of the work of SBS. Whilst we wish Avina every success in her venture, we encourage all her fans to donate generously.  At SBS, we will be watching with bated breath. Happy Birthday Avina!
