Request to give evidence – Joint Committee on Human Rights

Last week, Rahila Gupta, a trustee of Southall Black Sisters (SBS), gave evidence to Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights as part of its examination of the right to protest in the UK.

In her evidence, Rahila highlighted the vital connection between the right to protest and the right to belong, particularly for Black, minoritised and migrant communities, drawing attention to the intersections between immigration status, belonging and the right to protest, as well as raising concerns about the policing of protests in the UK.
